Marigold — Recipe App with LLM Drafting

What they needed

Recipe management is scattered across bookmarks, apps, screenshots, and browser tabs. There was no single app that could import recipes from any URL, draft new ones from a prompt, and walk you step-by-step through cooking — all with your own library synced across devices.

What I built

A full React Native app on Expo, running on iOS and Android. Recipe drafting via LLM from a prompt, web scraping to import recipes from any URL, Firebase Firestore for real-time cross-device sync, and a dedicated cook mode that walks users through each step without distraction. Currently being refreshed under the name Marigold — the existing Play Store listing still resolves under the previous name during the transition.

Garlic Butter Weeknight Pasta

Step 1 of 4

Boil salted water and cook the spaghetti until al dente, about 9 minutes. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water before draining.

Marigold is published on Google Play. Since it's behind a login, this is a sample recipe in a working mock of the two features people actually use it for.

Cook mode walks you through one step at a time — no scrolling back through a wall of text mid-recipe.

AI draftturns a one-line prompt into a full recipe you can save and edit. (The mock's draft is scripted — the real app calls an LLM.)
